CEI heavy fuel preheaters are made to heat heavy fuel as it flows to a burner. Typical applications include burners of aggregate dryers used at hot mix asphalt plants. However, heavy fuel preheaters can be used in any application where a burner is fired on heavy fuel.

Pre-heating lowers the viscosity of heavy fuel so that it can be properly atomized by the burner. The standard preheater incorporates a coil that uses thermal fluid as its source of heat. Electrically-heated models and fully-packaged skids are also available.

Modulating control — The heavy fuel preheater uses modulating control to heat and maintain heavy fuel at optimum temperature. It precisely maintains heavy fuel temperature within two degrees F. This produces significant benefits when operating an aggregate dryer/drum mixer on heavy fuel.

Significance of precise temperature control — Heavy fuel at optimum temperature burns more efficiently than heavy fuel at higher or lower temperatures. Thus, the burner of a dryer/drum mixer uses less heavy fuel when the heavy fuel is heated to the optimum temperature. Since dryers use relatively large amounts of heavy fuel, the savings can be significant.

Modulating control — The heavy fuel preheater uses modulating control to heat and maintain heavy fuel at optimum temperature. It precisely maintains heavy fuel temperature within two degrees F. This produces significant benefits when operating an aggregate dryer/drum mixer on heavy fuel.

Moreover, heavy fuel at temperatures much higher or lower than optimum produce adverse side effects on hot mix quality, baghouse filters, stack emissions and burner operation.

Packaged Fuel Preheater SkidOther features of the preheater — The preheater uses serpentine coils of finned pipe. The fins are serrated and increase the heat transfer area of the pipe about 800 percent more than bare pipe. The serrations also increase efficiency by increasing the turbulence of the heavy fuel flowing around the fins.

The entire coil bundle can be removed from the preheater shell. This allows access for cleanout of sludge and debris left by heavy fuel. A drain valve facilitates draining water that may accumulate in the shell.

The preheater is designed to raise the temperature of heavy fuel up to 100 degrees F at a flow rate of 1,000 gallons per hour.

Optional skid-mounted model comes complete with fuel pump, motor, piping and duplex strainer.
